Vesper Public Relations. Los Angeles, CA. March 2025. The Latin American Cinematheque of Los Angeles (LACLA), together with the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles and the Consulate General of Argentina in Los Angeles, celebrates women filmmakers with a special screening of the drama film "Alemania," a story about a young woman, a 16-year-old teenager, who dreams of escaping her difficult home life.

This film is part of LACLA's New Wave Cinema selection. The special screening of "Alemania" will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Centro Cultural y Cinematográfico México, 2401 W 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90057. Free RSVP https://alemania.eventbrite.com/

Prior to the film screening, an interview with director María Zanetti, led by Guido Segal, LACLA's programming director, will be available.

Germany is an autobiographical portrait of a middle-class Argentine teenager in the 1990s. Immersed in an unstable family dynamic, she fantasizes about freedom and autonomy through a study trip to Germany, which may or may not be the path to true happiness.

Film Synopsis: Lola, a sassy but kind-hearted 16-year-old, needs to apply herself in school if she wants to convince her parents to let her spend a semester abroad, an experience that, in her mind, represents a break from family dynamics and excitement. However, her parents, who are concerned about her older sister's mental health issues, face financial and emotional challenges that could jeopardize Lola's dreams. As these worries strain her relationships with family and friends, Lola becomes more determined to travel, seeking new experiences that she hopes will provide her with a fresh perspective on herself and her circumstances.
